In this second helping of the Death Rises series we join James Morrison son of Jim Morrison as he joins his regiment The 1st Battalion The Gordon Highlanders/SD. Despite the privileges of his childhood Jim Morrison did not bring up his youngest full blooded human son to be soft. With very few full bloods left James has had to fight an uphill battle his whole life against the prejudices a society of mixed bloods threw at him. James however is more than up to the task. Traveling around the universe with his father as a child, James is beloved of the other races within the Universe, and has been adopted into many of the ruling families.
A few short weeks after he reaches the battalion, an attack by an unknown enemy sends James on the adventure of a lifetime. His father sends him, a few scouts and the grandson of Billy Henderson on a mission to discover the nature of the threat. What he discovers sends the people of the universe into shock, and so starts a desperate race against time.

This is the second in a two book series that introduced me to JW Murison, I was blown away with the battle scenes as well as the true gut-wrenching emotions that one is hit with when involved with death up-close. I later read up on the author only to find out he was part of the real-deal.I also appreciated the thought going into the scenario he proposed with this book. I have thought long and hard over the story. I am on my 4th reading of this series. This series is a great read, however, I count one of the authors other series ( ACV's) as one of my all time favorites. I am on my 6th reading of that series in 2 ½ years.
I won't spoil the books here, but you need to read "Death Rising" first. It takes only a few short chapters of the first book to get sucked in. I am not sure how Murison is able to continue to keep the adrenaline pumping page after page without creating an absolute chaos but he does.
Do yourself a favor, get his books, start them on Friday after work...you might get some sleep early Monday morning, but...you will not be disappointed.
Although not all of Murison's books are Sci-Fi, there is ALWAYS something a little unexplainable going on. Really Cool.

Another good old fashioned yarn base in a world we know with a Science fiction twist...keep up the good work

Great Book, heartily recommend
I think that it may have been better if I had started with the first book. I did have a good time reading this one. It just seems that I missed some needed background.
Rowdy guys book. A Scottish James Bond, however somewhat less polished and disrespectful in highland fashion, every guy wants to cleaver, smart, attractive to women, physically fit, self assured. Manly bonding with his mates. It is all in here. Second book in this series
The story was a decent tell. Worth the $1. The editing however is atrocious. It starts out at a quick pace and doesn't let up. The main charter exploits are soon predictable but is still fun to read. Detailed sex scenes while only a couple did nothing to add to the book and frankly detracted from its content. Fade to black works too. I gave the book only 2 stars because of the editing, the predictability, and the bodice ripper sex but over all it was a decent read.
